Mahabalipuram or Mammalapuram is a town located in Kancheepuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu. Also situated on the Coromandel Coast of Bay of Bengal, it has recognized seaport that dates back to the 7th & 10th centauries of the Pallava Dynasty. Knowing History: It is said that demon king Mahabali was killed by Lord Vishnu that gave its name as Mamallapuram which was later changed by the King Pallava Narshima Varman who was awarded with the title as mamalla- also known as the great wrestler. In the eighth century shore temple was built to honor Lord Shiva by the Pallavas and during their reigns exceptionally beautiful & magnificent architecture was carved by them and with active seaport for decades this place is now included in the World Heritage listed temples and carvings.
